Real Monarchs SLC
Interim Head Coach Jamison Olave
On another win and shutout:

“Great, the place is feeling really good.  They know they work hard. They could’ve made the game a little easy by just putting the chances away, but they still fought, and we get the result for the shutout and that says how strong the team is going.”

On Brody’s performance:

“Brody is good; with Brody we know we will have a defense and be able to attack. He is a complete player and we trust him. We help him because he is doing a great job with the team.”

On single goal results:

“Like I said before the team is coming strong, getting that shutout comes from the back-line partly from Connor to Hoffman. They know everyone defends together, everyone attacks together. This is a team and that makes us really happy because we know that with one goal we are still allowed to get results.”

Defender Andrew Brody
On his goal:

“Well first of all it's amazing. It’s amazing to get the three points, that’s most important. More important than a goal - and yes it was great to get the goal. That play was something me and Chandler have actually worked on. When I see him check in behind, then he checks back into me, play him, and I know I’m getting it right back. Credit to him, and then [he] sets me up for an easy touch, easy finish.”

On the second half performance:

“Well we knew they were going to be a big group. They play a lot of direct balls. We just got to make sure we’re tuned in defensively, keeping track of our runners, working hard, and not letting them get in behind.”

On scoring a goal as a defender:

“I think a good thing about this group is everyone can score; everyone can find the back of the net. We have faith in everybody; we trust everybody. Today it happened to me but next game it could be the left back or the center back.”

On the win back home:

“It feels like a while since we’ve been here but great to get a win in front of the fans, keep the clean sheet here and get the three points for the fans.”

Fresno FC
Head Coach Adam Smith

On team mentality after an early goal:
“It was a very poor goal. I’m very disappointed with it. We talked about putting pressure on the ball and not allowing Salt Lake to move us around because they are very good at it. I was extremely disappointed with that but everything else I’m okay with. We actually fought tonight. Even with ten men we carried on fighting. We had a few chances and really we should have come away with a tie.”

On the strong Fresno performance:
“I just said to the guys at half time ‘You’re so close. You’ve just got to believe a little bit more and you’ve got to put a little bit more pressure on them because they’ll make a mistake and it’s whether we can capitalize on it when they do make a mistake.’ We are probably more used to playing in hot conditions than Salt Lake are. I know altitude is always difficult and it’s a turf field which we don’t play on, but I thought the heat would give us a bit of an advantage tonight. We got our second wind when we got used to the conditions and even with having to gamble a little bit with three in the back in the last seven minutes of the game, I thought we might get something. It would have been a great result, but it hasn’t happen and I’ve got to pick the guys up and move on to the next one.

On Kyle Reynish’s performance:
“I think Salt Lake will be disappointed they didn’t get a second goal because they knocked on the door and of course when you’re chasing the game that’s going to happen – you’re going to leave yourselves open a little bit. Kyle is a good goalkeeper and I wanted to play him tonight. This is obviously his old home and he has had a lot of years here. I’m very pleased with his performance.”

Goalkeeper Kyle Reynish

On his performance:
“It was good. I was happier with it, but at the end of the day we were down a guy and I think the defense was doing as well as they could. Luckily, they were keeping most of the shot from distance out. At that point that’s all you can ask – not to be put in one-on-one situations. They were keeping distance from outside the eighteen, which is probably one of my more comfortable attributes are far distance shots. I think we did as well as we could while still taking chances going forward and trying to create chances. I was happy with myself, but I think the defense did well too.”

On the Monarchs goal:
“I’m not quite sure where the break down was. He was kind of walking in on me from 12-yards out. I think we had a little bit of a break down there. It was obviously a great finish, impressive shot with the outside of his foot.”
