87th Minute Strike Sinks Monarchs in First 2018 Meeting Between the Sides; Real Monarchs Back in Action on Labor Day Against San Antonio FC at Zions Bank Stadium

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO (Wednesday, August 29, 2018)Real Monarchs SLC (17-7-2, 53 points, 1 West) fell to Western Conference foe Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC 0-1 on Wednesday evening. The loss sees the club remain winless on the road since June 16.

Throughout the first half of play, both teams traded possession in the early goings with no clear chances to show for until late in the half. The best chance in the first half fell the way of the hosts, as former Monarchs midfielder Karsten Hanlin’s volley from inside the penalty area skipped off the post and out for a goal kick on the 33rd minute. On two occasions in the first half, Switchbacks FC found the back of the net but on both occasions were judged to be offside.

The second half of action saw the Monarchs generate more looks at goal as FW Chandler Hoffman entered as a second half substitute to generate a chance almost instantly, but his shot sailed high. DF Andrew Brody found himself forward on numerous occasions and nearly found the go-ahead goal himself when his rifled effort clattered off the crossbar in the 82nd minute.

Switchbacks FC would find the breakthrough in the 87th minute when forward Saeed Robinson curled a shot past GK Adam Grinwis and into the far corner, send Weidner Field into a frenzy. The goal would hold despite the Monarchs late efforts as the Utah side fell for the seventh time this season.
