Real Monarchs SLC add Centerback Konrad Plewa ahead of 2018 Season

SANDY, Utah (December 14, 2018) –Real Monarchs SLC announced today it has added another piece to its backline with the signing of former USL Cup Champion, Saint Louis FC and New York Red Bulls II centerback Konrad Plewa, pending league and federation approval.


“Konrad brings a wealth of experience to our backline. We are excited to add a player of his caliber, someone who knows this league and can help contribute from day one,” Monarchs Assistant General Manager Dan Egner said. “He adds a bit of a different look for us, and we think he’ll step right in and gel with this group immediately.”


The 25-year-old Plewa comes to the Monarchs for his fourth season in the United Soccer League after spending last season with Saint Louis FC in the USL’s Eastern Conference, where he scored one goal in 1755 total minutes while featuring in 20 matches – 19 of which were starts. Standing at 6’3” Plewa will provide another piece to an already staunch Real Monarchs defense, that only conceded 31 goals in 32 regular season matches in 2017.

Signing with NYRB II ahead of the 2015 season, Plewa spent his first two seasons as a professional with New York Red Bulls II, a stint that included a 2016 USL Cup Championship triumph and a USL Regular Season Championship. In his time with the Red Bulls, Plewa earned 3,478 minutes across 53 matches, scoring three goals.


A native of Wallington, New Jersey, Plewa played collegiately at Seton Hall University prior to signing with Red Bulls II. While with the Pirates, Plewa played in 54 matches, scoring five goals.


With the addition of Plewa, the Monarchs roster stands as follows:
