HERRIMAN, Utah (Wednesday, February 9, 2022) – Real Monarchs have signed 53rd overall MLS SuperDraft forward Pedro Fonseca on MLS NEXT Pro professional contact ahead of the inaugural MLS NEXT Pro season, pending league approval.

“The Club would like to officially congratulate Pedro on joining the Real Monarchs for the 2022 season. During his time in our preseason camps, Pedro has continued to reinforce his ability as an able attacker, with the creative force to beat players and achieve goal scoring opportunities. We look forward to Pedro’s continued development with the Monarchs this year,” Real Salt Lake Assistant General Manager Tony Beltran said.

Fonseca, 24, was selected by Real Salt Lake in the second round of the 2022 MLS SuperDraft from the University of Louisville where he tallied 15 goals and 16 assists in 48 appearances. The Brazilian forward has appeared in three NCAA Tournaments and earned a berth to the Round of 16 during his sophomore year.

This past month Fonseca has trained with Real Salt Lake as they prepare for the start of their 2022 Major League Soccer season, including making the trip to Tucson, Arizona where he got to play against Grand Canyon University and Houston Dynamo FC.

Real Monarchs are set to compete in MLS NEXT Pro for the 2022 season, the schedule for which will be released at a later date. This move comes after seven seasons in the USL Championship, during which the team won the 2019 USL Championship Cup, the 2017 USL Regular Season Shield and the Western Conference Title in both 2017 and 2019, while also qualifying for the postseason in 2018.
