Man of the Match: Making his second consecutive start in goal for the Monarchs was Connor Sparrow who’s shutout performance propelled the Monarchs to the 1-0 victory. Making eight saves in the match, Sparrow conjured up at least one highlight-reel save in each half in his first professional match in his hometown of Saint Louis to ensure another road win for the Monarchs.


Telling Stat: Saint Louis FC placed eight shots on target in the match as opposed to the Monarchs three. Saving all eight shots placed on target from the hosts was Connor Sparrow who helped solidify the team’s seventh shutout of 2018.


What You Missed: Forward Chandler Hoffman notched his fourth goal in four games to retake the lead on the Monarchs scoring charts. The striker now has six goals to his name this season, including a record-breaking 50th career regular-season goal. Hoffman now owns 53 regular-season goals and according to the 27-year-old, “When I score once they come in bunches. Hopefully that continues to hold true.”


So What: After falling to Swope Park Rangers in a midweek match on Wednesday, the Monarchs showed resilience by beating Saint Louis in front of a sell-out crowd in Missouri. The hosts peppered the Monarchs goal but all 11 players on the field ground out the narrow 1-0 victory to remain three points clear atop the United Soccer League standings with a game in hand. The Monarchs return to the friendly confines of Zions Bank Stadium on Tuesday, June 26th to host Fresno FC for the second time this season. Kickoff from Herriman is set for 8:00 p.m. MT.
