Man of the Match: Midfielder Maikel Chang played a dominant role on the pitch for the Monarchs. Registering six shots on goal, Chang picked up two goals and an assist, including a freekick he fired in from the top of the penalty area, expertly sending it into the corner of the frame. Chang’s spectacular performance helped solidify the 5-0 scoreline that earned the Monarchs its first win of the season.


Telling Stat: 16. Real Monarchs took a total of 16 shots throughout the afternoon, 12 of which came in the second half as the team ran rampant over its opposition. The Monarchs attack was able to get five shots on target, each one registering a goal to show for the performance, keeping the Galaxy goalkeeper without a save.


What You Missed: Real Monarchs picked up its first win of the 2019 season and its first win with Head Coach Martin Vasquez at the helm. MFs Ricardo Avila and Maikel Chang, FW Lionel Abate Etoundi, and DF Steve Jasso each picked up goals throughout the night to usher in the victory. RSL Academy products Jordan Pena and Jasso both made their professional debuts, with Pena making an appearance in the Starting XI while Jasso appeared as a sub and tallied his first goal within four minutes.


So What: The Monarchs remain one of the eight teams in the West that are so far undefeated in 2019, after starting the season with consecutive draws before earning its first win. The Utah team now holds five points on the league table, holding on to the 7th position upon the league table, one point below its Four-Corners rival, New Mexico United. Real Monarchs now turn its attention to the road as it heads to Cashman Field to revive the I-15 rivalry against Las Vegas Lights FC.
