Fresh off consecutive home Leagues Cup wins in dominant fashion, after advancing to the Quarterfinals in the midseason tournament, the Claret-and-Cobalt returned to MLS play with a 1-1 draw against Minnesota United FC on Saturday night. The match marked the fourth of five matches at America First Field in a span of 15 days. Alongside a standout defensive performance by Lukas Engel, and a goal that earned Spanish rookie forward Sergi Solans his eighth of the MLS season and a team-high 12th across all competitions, the match also featured the team’s debut of the limited-edition 2026 Black Diamond Kit.

Engel Prevents Minnesota from Scoring First

Danish defender Lukas Engel made a significant contribution to the back line efforts, keeping Minnesota from scoring first in the 1-1 home draw. Engel showcased his defensive instincts in the game’s 34th minute, when Minnesota’s Joaquin Pereyra made a shot on goal that goalkeeper Rafael Cabral attempted to punch away, but ultimately looked headed for the back of the net. Engel’s back-line propensity had him already in place to deflect the shot, clearing it up and over the net just before it narrowly crossed the goal line. The maneuver elicited gasps from the crowd and extended RSL’s shutout streak to 309 minutes at half.

The centerback rides a streak of contributions for the Club, after scoring last Saturday against Atlante CF of Liga MX for the second time in five games. Engel notched his first-ever home goal as the third in a string of four goals in the 4-0 win over Atlante. On July 22, the defender found his first MLS goal, as the lone scorer in a 3-1 loss at LAFC. The Danish defender continues to be a threat on the backline, with tonight showcasing his ability to make quick decisions and contribute positively to the team.

Solans Nets Eighth Goal of the Season

Salt Lake finally found the net in the 82nd minute, when Diego Luna headed the ball upfield to Sergi Solans. The Spanish forward took the ball up the right side, beating a defender one-on-one, before rocketing a right-footed shot into the back of the net to give RSL a 1-0 lead.

Solans is a cornerstone of the Club’s attack, Saturday’s goal marking his 12th across all competitions in 2026, and eighth during the current MLS regular season. The rookie provided the second of three goals in a 3-0 victory over Juarez on Tuesday in Leagues Cup, previously scoring his seventh MLS goal on August 1st at St. Louis.

The forward made his RSL and MLS debut in the 2026 season opener at Vancouver, quickly solidifying himself as a key attacker. Solans first found the net on March 7 in a 3-2 win away at Atlanta United, scoring in the 23rd minute, before notching his first-ever professional brace on April 18 at home against San Diego. With his propensity for putting the ball away, Solans leads RSL’s 2026 Golden Boot race with eight goals, having now found the net in the last three consecutive games and scoring in four of the Club’s five August matches.
