As the lights shined bright at America First Field Wednesday night, 20,632 fans packed the stands to cheer on the Claret-and-Cobalt in its fifth and final home match in 15 days. The congested stretch saw RSL compete in both MLS play and Leagues Cup, and while certain results have not fallen completely in favor of the home side, the midweek matchup witnessed no shortage of firepower.

RSL’s attacking trio of Sergi Solans, Morgan Guilavogui and Diego Luna were the bright lights of a heartbreaking 4-3 loss to FC Dallas on Wednesday night. With each player scoring and setting each other up, the trio kept the home side within reach, the attacking chemistry giving RSL a fighting chance in a seven-goal thriller.

The midweek matchup took an undesirable turn for the home side early on, with visitors FC Dallas netting two goals in the first twenty minutes of the match. While the Claret-and-Cobalt faced an uphill battle, the home side continued to push forward, settling into the match and working in search of a goal.

In the 38th minute, Spanish forward Solans helped to shift the momentum back in favor of RSL, netting an impressive one-touch shot into the top left corner of the net. The critical score began with star midfielder Luna, who set up just outside the 18-yard-box after winning a free kick, his service resulting in a perfectly-placed ball into the center of the box, where Solans’ one-touch shot brought Real Salt Lake within one.

The Oregon State/UCLA standout has enjoyed a breakout rookie campaign, his consistent finishing ability lifting the Spaniard to 13 goals across all competitions (MLS, Friendlies, Leagues Cup) and an impressive nine goals in MLS action, earning him a new rookie Club record and sole possession of RSL’s all-time record for goals for a first-time professional. As if that isn’t impressive enough, the striker has now recorded five goals in RSL’s six matches during the month of August - including one in each of the last four - further cementing himself as a key piece in the squad’s 2026 attack.

Solans has continued to showcase his high-level striking abilities, netting countless difficult goals to showcase his high-level soccer IQ at just 23-years of age. As the season progresses, the young star will no doubt continue to shine, as his relentless pressure and heart on the pitch has helped to lift the squad, truly an inspiration and a pleasure to watch.

While the visitors were able to find the net for a third time just before halftime, Real Salt Lake stepped onto the pitch for the second half with energy and heart. French-born Designated Player Morgan Guilavogui scored his third goal with RSL and second in MLS action just five minutes into the second half. None other than Luna ignited the play, sending a ball to German-born MF Noel Caliskan before Guilavogui brought the home side to an achievable one-goal deficit.

While the pair of goal contributions on the evening brought Luna to eight assists in MLS throughout 2026, it wasn’t enough to stop there. The star midfielder continued to charge forward, finding RSL’s equalizer in the 64th minute with a decisive header off of a cross by recently-acquired Georgian international Saba Lobjanidze. The second-half substitute immediately impacted the match, bringing the score level at 3-3, while also earning his third assist since joining the club at the beginning of July.

With Luna’s score tonight, the 22-year-old playmaker, dubbed “Moon Man,” scored his first goal since May 9, coincidentally away at FC Dallas, and his fifth MLS goal of 2026. The young talent has been nothing short of impressive throughout the five-match RSL homestand, bleeding grit and the RSL “xDAWG” mentality every time he steps onto the pitch.

RSL’s trio up top lifted up their teammates, bringing the home side level after it appeared the match was far out of reach. While the score ultimately ended in the visitors’ favor, Solans, Guilavogui and Luna were the pinnacle of heart, continuing to battle until the final whistle.

The Claret-and-Cobalt now hit the road for at least three consecutive road matches, the squad traveling to Orlando City SC this Saturday, August 22, with kickoff slated for 5:30 pm MT. Following the MLS regular-season matchup in Florida, RSL will face Liga MX side León in the highly-anticipated Leagues Cup Quarterfinal in Denver. The Tuesday matchup is scheduled to kick off at 8:30 pm MT, with all matches streaming on AppleTV.
