Movsisyan's Chip Up For AT&T Goal of the Week

Yura Movsisyan has been an impactful player for Real Salt Lake this season and Saturday night at Children’s Mercy Park his influence resulted in a candidate for AT&T Goal of the Week.

Playing on the road against his first professional club, Sporting Kansas City, Movsisyan scored a victory-sealing goal in the 53rd minute, providing the perfect response as Kansas City scored minutes earlier to cut RSL’s lead to 2-1.

Kyle Beckerman threaded a ball through two defenders to put Mosisyan in on the run.  The RSL forward beat Nuno Coelho from right to left, then chipped his shot over the oncoming Tim Melia to put the match out of reach at 3-1.  The goal was equally impressive and impactful.

“It was huge.  We spoke about it at halftime and we knew what they were going to do.  I thought we dealt with it and we were bending and they got that goal and we're feeling pretty good,” RSL Head Coach Jeff Cassar said.  “They scored and they were feeling good and I really liked the response we had after that, especially putting that chance away.”

The goal not only boosted RSL by reinstating the two goal lead, but also halted any momentum Kansas City hoped to gain from Dom Dwyer’s goal.

“I think when they scored early in the half, they were feeling confident that the momentum was going their way, so we had to kind of nip it in the bud there, and getting the momentum back on our side was really important,” Beckerman said.  “It was just a play to be made, and I looked up and saw Plata and Yura were open in the middle, and they did the rest.”
