Real Salt Lake midfielder Javier Morales's stunning free kick from last Saturday's 2-1 win over Portland has been named MLS Goal of the Week!
Morales scored in the 36th minute of Saturday's match, beautifully curling a 25-yard free kick over the Timbers wall and into the top-left-corner of the goal to give RSL a 2-0 first half lead. Morales - who assisted on RSL's first goal and drew fouls that led to both strikes - narrowly beat out L.A's Juninho for the weekly honor, recieving roughly four percent more of the vote than the Galaxy midfielder.
Morales is the third Claret-and-Cobalt player to win the Goal of the Week award this season. Forward Alvaro Saborio and captain Kyle Beckerman were the team's previous winners, nabbing the award in Week 5 and Week 7, respectively.
