Javier Morales had quite a season with nine goals and 12 assists in 30 matches for Real Salt Lake. The Argentine midfielder had one particularly stellar goal, though, and his high-arching goal against the Houston Dynamo in Week 10 has landed him in the Second Round of AT&T MLS Goal of the Year voting.
On the play, Morales took a pass from Alvaro Saborio at the edge of the box and floated a rainbow past his defender and inside the far corner. It was fitting that this goal is highlighted in the MLSSoccer.com year-end voting. It was part of a hat-trick for Morales in a 5-2 victory over the Dynamo, also adding an assist in the win.
His goal is up against scores from Bradley Wright-Phillips and fellow Argentines Federico Higuain and Diego Valeri in Group 6. Voting runs through 12:59 am MT on Monday with the top two vote-getters in each group advancing to the Semifinal Round.
