Real Salt Lake forward Yura Movsisyan was remarkable in leading RSLās charge back from an early deficit to earn a 2-1 win over the Colorado Rapids on Friday to clinch the Rocky Mountain Cup and vault into second place in the Western Conference.
The second of his two goals earned a nomination for MLSsoccer.comās Goal of the Week.
With the match tied at 1-1 at halftime, RSL came out hot to start the second half. All three forwards figured into the scoring, as Juan Manuel Martinez led Joao Plata up the left side on a give-and-go. After taking two touches with his right, Plata skipped the ball to Movsisyan at the edge of the 18 with his left. Movsisyan took a touch to get to his right foot, but was met by two defenders so he quickly cut back to his left and crushed a left-footed shot just out of Tim Howardās reach and into the top corner for his ninth goal of the season ā a career best in MLS.
After coming back from a hip flexor strain in recent weeks, the goal was even more rewarding for Head Coach Jeff Cassar.
āThe second goal by Yura was Yura being Yura,ā Cassar said. āIt was a combination play out wide penetrated to the middle and from there thatās just a world-class strike. Heās worked extremely hard to get back to full fitness and youāre seeing him really strong, really fit and really helping us out.ā
