Man of the Match: Defender Aaron Herrera stepped into a new role, serving as one of the backline’s three center backs, and excelled on both sides of the ball, making more touches (90) than any other player on the pitch. Herrera earned his 10th assist of the year, tied for sixth most in the league, while also adding a team-leading seven clearances.

Telling Stat: Real Salt Lake set a new home win streak record with its seventh consecutive victory at Rio Tinto Stadium. Additionally, the home streak tied this season’s league-best run of seven wins in a row, set by New York City FC from June to August. While also earning its seventh consecutive win at home, the Claret-and-Cobalt are now unbeaten in eight games at the RioT, dating back to July 21. Interim RSL Head Coach Pablo Mastroeni is now 4-0-0 at home this season.

What You Missed: Midfielder Damir Kreilach recorded his 14th goal of the season and set an all-time RSL record for scoring in five consecutive matches. Kreilach’s goal was assisted by Aaron Herrera and Albert Rusnák, their 10th and 11th of the year, respectively. Rubio Rubin netted his eighth goal on the 2021 campaign, assisted by Kreilach, his seventh of the season. Kreilach’s eighth assist of the year came when forward Anderson Julio iced the match with his eighth goal of the year, including his fifth as a substitute.

What’s Next: Real Salt Lake travel to face Chicago Fire, the only non-conference road match of the season, on Saturday October 23 at 6:00 p.m. MT. From there the team heads to FC Dallas on Wednesday, October 27, before returning home to host San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday, October 30 for a 1:30 p.m. MT kickoff.
