Real Monarchs SLC (9-2-1, 28 points); Rio Grande Valley (1-3-7, 10 points)
Players to Watch – Midfielder Todd Wharton has fed an unpolished RGV attack this season, making the most out of his situation with a team-high 25 chances created. Wharton centers his game around key passes, finding his teammates in attacking situations by creating both space and opportunity in the attacking third. The RGV centerpiece has only solidified his identity in the midfield with a completed pass rating of 88%, a team high for a player who consistently attempts the most passes per game.
History – The series between the two is just four games, with the Monarchs leading having claimed a record of 2-1-1. The last meeting between the two sides came last August, where full-time handed the Monarchs a 2-1 win and a full three points. Rio Grande Valley last win over the Monarchs came in 2016, courtesy of a 1-0 scoreline.
Last Five – RGVFC currently sits in 14th place in the Western Conference with 10 points. In their last five matches Rio Grande has come out with five points, all from draws. RGV has bent but not broken on several occasions this season with a league-high seven draws to their name. The South-Texas side have yet to find three points on the road in 2018 and have a challenge ahead of them as they take on the Monarchs, who have only dropped points just once at home this season.
