22 Under 22: David Ochoa

On Tuesday, MLSsoccer.com announced its annual 22 Under 22 pres. by BodyArmor containing 22 of the brightest young players under the age of 22 playing in Major League Soccer as voted on by MLSsoccer.com staff, members of the MLS player development department and external media. Voters were asked to rank their Top-22 players in order based on technical, tactical, physical and potential abilities.

On this year’s list, the Real Salt Lake Academy pipeline is once again touted as David Ochoa registers at #18 on this year’s list.

Currently in his second season in MLS, the 20-year-old goalkeeper has played a key role in RSL’s success this season, helping the team to a current 5th place standing in the Western Conference table with six matches remaining in the regular season.

Following a highly successful career with the RSL Academy and Real Monarchs in the USL Championship, Ochoa has appeared in 19 of the team’s 28 matches this season, all of which have been starts, and has registered 61 saves and four clean sheets. Ochoa made his MLS debut in the final game of the abbreviated 2020 season, starting and playing the full 90 minutes against Sporting Kansas City in a snowy contest at Rio Tinto Stadium.
