Tryouts for the 2020/21 RSL Unified Team

The RSL Foundation will be holding tryouts for Athletes (players with intellectual disabilities) and Partners (players without intellectual disabilities) for the 2020-2021 RSL Special Olympics Unified team. Players on the RSL Unified team will get a true professional experience from an introductory signing day to playing inside Rio Tinto Stadium and traveling with the RSL first team to play in an away match against MLS unified opponents.

Unified Soccer joins people with and without intellectual disabilities on the same team. It was inspired by the simple principle: training together and playing together is a quick path to friendship and understanding.

Being a part of the Real Salt Lake (RSL) Special Olympics Utah (SOUT) Unified Soccer team will allow athletes and partners the opportunity to participate in an exciting soccer experience. Team members will sign a two year contract and participate in regular training sessions, one home match and one away match.

Tryouts will be held Jan. 4th from 1:00-3:00pm at the Zions Bank Real Academy (14787 Academy Parkway, Herriman, UT). Please arrive at 12:30pm to check-in. Please bring cleats, shin guards, and athletic attire.

Please fill out this form before tryouts.

Inclusion of Special Olympics

Leveraging the power of soccer, the RSL Foundation together with MLS, ESPN and Special Olympics Utah have partnered to create the RSL Unified Soccer Team. Unified Soccer joins people with and without intellectual disabilities on the same team. It was inspired by the simple principle: training together and playing together is a quick path to friendship and understanding.

The RSL Unified Team participates in the MLS Unified Exchange program. This program provides opportunities for the RSL Unified team to participate in a 1st Team MLS experience. Unified soccer teams, comprised of players with and without intellectual disabilities, travel from their home city to other MLS markets to compete in exhibition matches with their Special Olympic counterparts. Unified matches are scheduled in conjunction with MLS club matches, providing MLS fans with an opportunity to witness first-hand the talents and abilities of Special Olympics athletes and unified partners.
