HERRIMAN, Utah (Friday, August 7, 2026) – Utah Royals FC (10-3-5, 33 pts) head to Centennial Park to take on Denver Summit FC (5-5-7, 20 pts) on Saturday, August 8th, with kickoff set for 2:00 p.m. MT. The Royals are fresh off of a dominating 5-1 win over the Portland Thorns on Sunday, and are hoping to carry the momentum to Denver, earning three more points and continuing to climb the NWSL table.
The Royals’ win over the Thorns marked multiple Club milestones, with the five goals marking the most Utah has scored in a single game in its history. Canadian-international Cloé Lacasse broke multiple club records by notching three assists, putting herself at the top of the Royals’ all-time goal contributions with 19, and becoming the second player in league history to record three assists in a single half. In addition to Lacasse’s contributions, URFC forward Cece Delzer notched a brace, the first of her career, NWSL veteran Kaleigh Riehl clocked 100 career appearances, and Utah-native Brecken Mozingo became the 11th goalscorer of the season with her first goal of the 2026 campaign.

Sunday night’s match started rocky after Portland’s Sophia Wilson scored in just 35 seconds, the quickest in the NWSL this season. URFC, however, responded by putting on a goal-scoring clinic. In the 31st minute, Kiana Palacios found Delzer, who placed the ball into the back of the net, scoring an equalizer. In the 47th minute, Lacasse delivered a cross to Delzer who made herself available and buried the chance in the back of the net, securing her first career brace. In the 68th minute, Lacasse found Mozingo, who was making a run up the right side, giving her an opportunity to convert the chance. In the 78th minute, Palacios tapped the ball into the net with a flick of her from behind after receiving from Miyabi. As a punctuation mark on the Royals’ dominant win, in the 88th minute, Lacasse sent a corner to Del Fava, who headed the ball into the net, marking the final score at 5-1 and giving the Royals its 10th win of the season, the first time they’ve done so since 2019.
Now, the Royals’ crew turns its attention to Denver, as it heads to Centennial Park to take on the Summit. URFC met the expansion side earlier this season in a 2-1 win over Denver on May 23rd at home in its first-ever meeting against the club. During the match, Palacios opened the scoring in the 20th minute, with Mina Tanaka securing the win with a 72nd minute penalty kick to claim the inaugural Continental Divide Cup.
Denver enters the matchup on Saturday with a 5-5-7, 20 pts league record, sitting at 11th in the overall NWSL standings. The Summit have not been able to find a win in their last three matchups, having suffered a 1-0 defeat to the Washington Spirit on July 26th, before going on to find a 1-1 draw against Boston Legacy on August 2nd. Earlier this week, the club fell 2-0 to North Carolina Courage on Wednesday night. While Denver has been unable to find a win, the club still stays aggressive, taking 16 shot attempts on average per game, the largest average in the league. Denver Summit’s Janine Sonis leads the club in goals with 7, including multiple converted penalty kicks. Head Coach Nick Cushing, the first Denver Summit head coach in club history, will be looking to find a win against the Royals, proving the club to secure a victory at this point in the season.
As the Royals seek a two-game win streak when they take on the Denver Summit, they will rely on the depth of the URFC roster. With eleven different goal-scorers this season, and playmakers such as Lacasse, the Royals stand to find a win during Saturday afternoon’s matchup in the second-ever Continental Divide Cup.
