Ten Reasons to Come to the RioT: No. 9

We are now just nine days away from First Kick on the 2017 MLS season as Real Salt Lake takes on Toronto FC March 4 at Rio Tinto Stadium.  Continuing our list of 10 reasons to come out and watch a game at the RioT we look today at one of Major League Soccer’s legendary players – goalkeeper Nick Rimando.

It is the sentiment of Real Salt Lake supporters, but the numbers are there to back it up, too.

129 shutouts.  183 wins.  Both are MLS records and he is closing in on the all-time saves mark, too.  He also has 13 playoff wins and 13 playoff shutouts that have led him to two MLS Cup titles.

He is looking for a third and wants 2017 to be the year he achieves that goal.  But that’s not all.  He also wants to backstop the U.S. National Team in its quest to qualify for the 2018 World Cup, which would put him in contention to go to a second World Cup tournament next year in Russia.

Throughout his career, Rimando has been known for the dramatic, logic-defying saves that leave opponents and fans alike rubbing their eyes and wondering if they really saw what they thought they just saw.  Share that experience with 20,000 of your closest friends at the RioT, starting March 4.
