Power Rankings: RSL Dips After Road Loss

Demar Phillips vs Seattle 0814

Each week we take a look at how the experts view Real Salt Lake in relation to the rest of the league with their weekly power rankings.  After a comeback was cut short in a 2-1 defeat on the road to the recently resurgent Sounders FC, here is how the experts place the Claret-and-Cobalt this week.

MLSsoccer.com – 8
“Since going 4-1-0 in April, RSL have limped through late spring and most of the summer with a 5-7-5 performance -- and only one of those wins came against a Western Conference team. They're safe above the red line, but the gap between them and the front-runners is larger than it appears.”

ESPNFC.com – 13
“RSL fell behind, then started a comeback through a Joao Plata goal that shouldn't have counted. Yura Movsisyan violated the laws of the game when he interfered with Stefan Frei's throw.”

SI.com – 13
“RSL had a tough assignment this week, visiting CenturyLink field to take on a Seattle Sounders team desperate for points and boasting a new designated player. But the way RSL played in this game adds to their already-maddening inconsistency. Props to Joao Plata, though, for this bit of opportunistic play off a Stefan Frei mistake.”

RSL is 6-0-5 at home with three straight road matches upcoming.  Do you agree with the Claret-and-Cobalt’s drop in the rankings this week?  Give your views in the comments section below.
