For the first 56 minutes of Friday’s match with D.C. United, Real Salt Lake could not solve the riddle of D.C. goalkeeper Bill Hamid. Then, Juan Manuel Martinez cracked the code and chipped a ball over the imposing keeper in a goal that is now nominated for the AT&T Goal of the Week.
In the 57th minute, Yura Movsisyan got into the box up the left side, but cut the ball back to Martinez at the edge of the 18. Martinez cut between two defenders until he was alone in a duel with Hamid. He wound up to strike and then as Hamid went to ground to block another shot, Martinez lifted the ball over him, placing it just under the crossbar and in the net for his sixth goal of the season, tying Movsisyan for the team lead.
