The First 17 of 2016 By The Numbers

Real Salt Lake reached the official halfway point on the 2016 MLS regular season on Friday with a 1-1 draw against D.C. United.


Here is a look at some of the facts and figures from the first half of the season.


- RSL is currently third in MLS with 28 points and third in points per match with 1.65, trailing only FC Dallas (34, 1.79) and the Colorado Rapids (33, 1.94).


- With a 3-5-2 road record, RSL has the most road points in the Western Conference (11) and is tied for second in MLS, behind only New York City FC (4-2-1, 13 points).


- Rio Tinto Stadium has been a fortress with RSL going 5-0-2 at home.  The Claret-and-Cobalt is among six teams in MLS without a home loss this season, joining Dallas (7-0-3), Colorado (7-0-2), the LA Galaxy (5-0-4), the San Jose Earthquakes (5-0-3) and Orlando City SC (3-0-6).


- Only Toronto FC has played fewer home matches in MLS this season, with the Reds going 2-1-3 in six matches at BMO Field.


- 19 players in MLS have six goals or more and two come from Real Salt Lake – Juan Manuel Martinez and Yura Movsisyan.  RSL is one of four teams with two players notching a half-dozen goals, joining the Portland Timbers, New York Red Bulls and Orlando City SC.  With the addition of Joao Plata’s five goals, RSL is one of three teams with three players with five goals or more along with Vancouver Whitecaps FC and the Philadelphia Union.


- RSL has had nine different players score goals this season, compiling 28 goals as a team, tied for third most in the Western Conference and fifth in MLS.


- Salt Lake has scored two or more goals in 11 matches this season and been held scoreless just three times.  Last year through 17 matches, the club had just five matches with two or more goals and was shutout eight times.
