Save of the Week: Rimando Walls Up Whitecaps

UPDATE: Nick Rimando's save has reached the final ... vote often today here.

Vancouver Whitecaps FC had several opportunities to score in the first 50 minutes of its match against Real Salt Lake on Saturday at Rio Tinto Stadium.  Likely the greatest of those chances came in the 50th minute when Nicolas Mezquida got a chance off of a turnover.  Octavio Rivero muscled Justen Glad off the ball and played it to Mezquida charging to the edge of the box.  He got a bit of space against Aaron Maund and shot from 12 yards out even with the left post.

At that moment, he learned about “The Wall of the Wasatch” as RSL goalkeeper Nick Rimando ranged out to the edge of the six-yard box and cut off his angle, getting his glove to the would-be goal and parrying it away for a corner kick.

The stunning effort by Rimando helped earn him his league-record 125th career clean sheet and is nominated for MLS Save of the Week at MLSsoccer.com.
