Silva has plenty he can add to RSL if he can remain healthy

When Luis Silva is fit, he is among the better young attacking players in Major League Soccer.  His five goals and five assists as a rookie with Toronto FC in 2012 and 11 goals and four assists last season with D.C. United are evidence of that.

So the newly acquired Real Salt Lake midfielder has two primary goals in gelling with his new teammates at Rio Tinto Stadium.

“Just staying fit and getting with the guys and building that chemistry, for me, would be the most important,” Silva said in an interview with The Bill & OC Show on ESPN 700 on Friday.

Silva came to RSL in a trade from D.C. United in exchange for Salt Lake’s all-time leading scorer, Alvaro Saborio on Thursday.  After two seasons with D.C., he was surprised when he was called into Head Coach Ben Olsen’s office to be told of the trade.

“I was a little shocked at the beginning, but I’m happy I’m going to a good club team - a team that likes to play football and that’s my style,” Silva said.  “I’m up for the challenge.  I’m just very happy and excited to get to know the guys and contribute any way I can to help make a run for the playoffs.”

Silva is scheduled to join the team today prior to its match against the Houston Dynamo, but he will not suit up for the match while resting a groin injury.  To hear the full interview, click here.
