Real Salt Lake duo called in for U.S. friendlies against Netherlands and Germany

Beckerman and Rimando US 0412

SANDY, Utah (Sunday, May 31, 2015) – Real Salt Lake has announced that GK Nick Rimando and MF Kyle Beckerman are among nine Major League Soccer players that have been called up by Jurgen Klinsmann for the U.S. National Team’s friendlies on Friday against the Netherlands and June 10 against Germany.  The two international friendlies will be played in Amsterdam and Cologne, respectively.  The Netherlands match will kick off at 12:30 p.m. MT on ESPN and the match against Germany will be live on Fox Sports 1 with a 12:45 p.m. MT.

This is the second time Beckerman has been called in to a U.S. camp in 2015 after featuring prominently for Klinsmann in 2014 with nine appearances during the year, including three during the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.  He now has 43 caps for the U.S. National Team.

With Real Salt Lake, Beckerman is the only player to start all 14 matches thus far this season.  The perennial MLS All-Star now ranks fourth all-time with 367 career MLS appearances - second amongst field players and 11 games shy of Steve Ralston.  Last month he was named the Utah Governor’s State of Sports winner for best Pro/Olympian Male Athlete for the second consecutive year.

Rimando has started all five friendlies of 2015 for the U.S. National Team, giving him 21 career appearances.  He has posted a record of 13-3-2 with four shutouts.  The 35-year-old ‘keeper had two appearances in 2015’s January camp against Chile and Panama then started both matches against Denmark and Switzerland in March and the Mexico match in April.

With RSL, he surpassed the all-time MLS shutout record in 2014 and now has 120 career clean sheets.  He ranks second in MLS history with 382 career appearances.  With the Claret-and-Cobalt he has a career record of 101-74-62 with 84 shutouts.

Rimando and Beckerman will join the U.S. squad in Amsterdam ahead of Friday’s match.

Klinsmann called in 22 players for the two matches.  Of the nine players from MLS, seven teams are represented (Real Salt Lake, the LA Galaxy, Toronto FC, Seattle Sounders FC, Orlando City SC, New York City FC, the New England Revolution) with RSL and the Revolution the only teams with two representatives.
