Schuler remains optimistic in absence to injury

Chris Schuler vs Philadelphia 0314

Chris Schuler isn’t one to hang his head when faced with adversity.

That has helped him in recovery from surgery on his meniscus over the last month and now he is nearing his return to action, even while taking things conservatively to ensure that he is back to full strength when he does make his way back to the field.

“I’m doing well.  Recovery is coming well.  A lot of rehab.  I’ve been through an injury before so as of right now, things are progressing positively,” Schuler said on The Bill & OC Show on Friday.  “Hopefully I’ll be back on the field soon.  It’s not tomorrow, so I don’t stress it too much, but it’s sometime soon.”

Schuler enjoyed a good start to the season, with RSL going 2-0-2 with two shutouts in the first four matches.  However, the 27-year-old center back has been out ever since.  Coming off a season in which he started a career-high 25 starts last year, he had high expectations in 2015 that could have left him in a state of depression if not for his optimistic approach.

“I’ve got a lot of goals in my life and I just stay concentrated on the goals I’d like to achieve.  You stay focused on the positive.  I don’t know the alternative – being negative and sad and go home and climb in bed?  I’m not about that life,” he said.  “I’ve been through it before and there’s a lot out me for the team so it’s not the most difficult task I’ve ever had to overcome.”

Schuler is unlikely to play this week against the LA Galaxy or Vancouver Whitecaps FC, but could see a return to the field in June when the schedule is a bit less congested.  Watching from the sidelines, he sees positives in what RSL has done thus far this season and looks forward to contributing again.

“It’s been a roller coaster season so far, but we have a lot of talent on our team, so I see the light at the end of the tunnel for sure,” Schuler beamed.
