REAL SALT LAKE SCHEDULE: OCTOBER 17-23, 2011
Real Salt Lake Hoping to Lock Down Western Conference’s #3 Seed in Saturday’s Season Finale vs. Portland Timbers;
Molding Box Presents 7:00 p.m. MT Kickoff and “Fan Appreciation Night” Festivities, including Nick Rimando Bobblehead Doll Giveaway

SANDY, Utah (Monday, October 17, 2011) – Playoff positioning will be on the line this Saturday, October 22, when Real Salt Lake (15-11-7, 52 pts.) closes out its 2011 MLS regular season slate by hosting the Portland Timbers (11-14-7, 40 pts.) in their first-ever visit to Rio Tinto Stadium. Molding Box will present RSL’s annual “Fan Appreciation Night” festivities and the 7:00 p.m. MT kickoff in Sandy, which can be followed live over the radio airwaves on Rock 99.1-FM and Juan 1600-AM.

Tickets for Saturday’s contest – at which the first 5,000 fans through the gates when they open at 6:00 p.m. will receive a Nick Rimando Bobblehead Doll, courtesy of Molding Box – are selling fast but remain available and can be purchased online at www.RealSaltLake.com, over the phone at 801-727-2700, or in person at the Rio Tinto Stadium Box Office weekdays from 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. and beginning at 10:00 a.m. on gameday. In addition, tickets for Real Salt Lake’s opening postseason contest are also available via the same methods (see below for date/opposition possibilities).

Real Salt Lake is currently tied with FC Dallas for the third and final automatic qualifying spot from the Western Conference into the 2011 MLS Cup Playoffs, but the Utah side holds the tiebreaker between the two rivals courtesy of its 1-0-1 head-to-head mark this season against the “Hoops.” A win over Portland – which itself is hopeful of claiming the last of the four available Wild Card berths – would guarantee RSL the #3 seed, as would any result even with Dallas’ in its match away at the San Jose Earthquakes (8:30 p.m. MT kickoff).

Should RSL claim the third seed in the West, it would enter the MLS Cup Playoffs next weekend in Leg One of a Western Conference Semifinals Series against Seattle Sounders FC, which would be hosted Saturday, Oct. 29 at Rio Tinto Stadium. If RSL slips to fourth, it would claim the top Wild Card seed and host the lowest Wild Card participant Wednesday, Oct. 26 in Sandy.
