RSL to Honor Memory of Copper Hills H.S. & Blue Knights SC Player Jose Ceballos during Pre-Game Ceremony

Prior to Saturday night’s kickoff, Real Salt Lake will honor the memory of Jose Ceballos, a member of the Copper Hills H.S. and Blue Knights SC soccer teams who tragically lost his life as the result of an automobile accident this past January. Utah’s MLS side will welcome the Ceballos family and his Copper Hills teammates for the match, and will hold a moment of silence on behalf of the 17-year-old. In addition to being a standout teammate on the soccer field, Ceballos was just as impactful off of it, having served as a tutor for elementary school students in math and English as part of the Latinos in Action service group and serving as a shining role model at Copper Hills and in the West Jordan community.

Judges to Decide Winner of First-ever “RSL Fan Food Challenge” on Saturday

Real Salt Lake’s first annual “Fan Food Challenge” will culminate in the build-up to Saturday’s kickoff against Los Angeles, when the recipes of the three finalists – Andrew Layne, Sean Penman and Andrea Shelley – will be scrutinized by a trio of judges headed by Salt Lake Tribune food writer Kathy Stephenson. One of the following three scrumptious creations from these RSL fans will have the honor of hitting the Levy Restaurants concession menu at Rio Tinto Stadium throughout the 2011 season, beginning with RSL’s next home contest on April 13 against Colorado:

  • Potato Skin Popper (Andrew Layne)
  • Buffalo Chicken Sandwiches (Andrea Shelley)
  • Cuban Sandwich (Sean Penman)

U.S. Army Medic Nick Moore to Be Honored as Saturday’s RSL/American Express “Hero Among Us”

Real Salt Lake and American Express are proud to recognize United States Army Medic Nick Moore as the lead-off recipient of the “Heroes Among Us” award during the second year of the community recognition program. A husband and father of two, Moore is currently stationed in Fort Carson, Colo., and will be leaving on his first deployment overseas later this spring after making the tough and valiant decision to put others’ lives before his own by enlisting in the military a year ago.

Nick’s wife, Angela, says that the two greatest loves in his life are his family and Real Salt Lake, so it only makes sense that he requested to spend his last day of leave with his family at Saturday’s match against Los Angeles at Rio Tinto Stadium. Real Salt Lake and American Express were more than happy to oblige the request and are honored to recognize Moore for his unselfish act of service and charity by making him the first of several “Heroes Among Us” this 2011 season.
