On Friday, May 17th, match day minus one training in Washington, URFC midfielder Alex Loera suffered a season ending injury.
Bay FC’s first ever signing back in November 2023, Loera netted in the 3-2 victory against Seattle Reign FC back on April 14, 2024. Captaining Bay FC on April 20th, 2024, for 31 minutes before coming off with a torn ACL in the 5-2 loss against Kansas City Current. The Utah Royals traded for Loera during the 2025 offseason.
Loera subbed in for Dana Foederer at the 84’ in the 2-0 loss away at Angel City, looking great in her return, as she fed dangerous balls into her teammates and re-energized the team as they searched for a last goal.
While this is undoubtedly a difficult and frustrating time for Loera, staff across the club wanted to send messages of support to let her know that she is not alone on the road to recovery.

“Alex, I understand you have had some really big set backs lately, and speaking as someone who had 2 ACL reconstruction surgeries myself, I know this process is not day and it is not short. But everything great in life typically comes after we face major hurdles and challenges. When you come out the other side, you will be a better person and player for it! You’ve got this!!!”

“Alex, we were all so excited to see you back on the field this month—what an incredible milestone after all the hard work you put in over the past year. Your return was a reminder of your resilience, dedication, and the passion you bring to the game and to this team.
We’re heartbroken for you that this journey has taken another difficult turn. It’s unfair, and we know how much this hurts. But we also know your strength—how hard you fight, how deeply you care, and how fiercely you come back.
We’ll be with you through every step of this next recovery, cheering you on and believing in you, just like always. Your presence means so much to this club, on and off the field, and we can’t wait to see you back when the time is right.
You’ve come back before. You will again.”

“Hi Alex. we haven't met, but hopefully we can soon. I've been with RSL and the Royals for 13 years. My wife played D1 at the University of Utah, which is where we met. She tore her ACL going into the U, and she tore her ACL the last year she played collegiately. So, I know the frustration that injuries can bring. Just wanted to know that I'm sending you good vibes and positive energy to heal well, and to heal quick! Take care!”
