HERRIMAN, Utah (Friday, October 30, 2026) – Utah Royals FC (14-5-10, 47 pts) now head to Sports Illustrated Stadium to battle against Gotham FC (17-7-5, 58 pts) on Decision Day Sunday, November 1st, with kickoff set for 3:00 p.m. MT. Last weekend, the Royals clinched a playoff berth with a draw against Seattle Reign, making URFC playoff bound for the first time in Club history.
The Royals 0-0 draw against the Reign in its last home match of the regular season on Friday featured Utah-native Courtney Brown’s first start at home, Ironwoman Kate Del Fava’s 94th consecutive start, and the fourth home clean sheet for the URFC backline. Despite the match ending scoreless, multiple attempts were made by both sides including a shot that hit the crossbar in the 6th minute by Royals’ captain Paige Cronin, and another attempt by Spanish midfielder Ana Tejada. Royals goalkeeper Mandy McGlynn also made crucial saves in the 35th and 87th minutes, preventing the opponents from finding the net. With the draw, the Royals celebrated clinching the playoffs for the first time in CLub history.
Now, with a postseason spot secured, Utah heads to Sports Illustrated Stadium to take on the league leaders. The Royals last faced Gotham earlier this season in July, with a match that ended in a 1-3 loss to the home team at America First Field. The lone Utah goal of the match was scored by NWSL veteran Cece Delzer who received a pass from Kiana Palacios before rocketing a right-footed shot into the net and putting the Royals ahead. Despite the early goal from Delzer, the Club was unable to maintain a lead, ultimately falling to the visitors.
Gotham enters the matchup against Utah with a 17-7-5 league record and 58 pts, sitting at 1st in the overall league standings. The club is coming off of a recent 2-1 victory over Orlando Pride on the road. Gotham has won four of its five matches against Utah since the Royals returned to the league in 2024, with Utah managing a draw against the club in August 2025. With the opportunity for Gotham to clinch their first NWSL Shield in club history with a win or draw against Utah on Sunday, the club will be fighting hard to walk about unbeaten.
A win against Gotham on Sunday would give the Royals 50 points to end the season, equaling its points from the last two seasons combined. As Utah prepares for its final regular season matchup of 2026, the club will look to defy the odds, close out the campaign on a high note and make a statement against a familiar opponent.
