Flip the Switch: Minnesota United

For each match in the MLS Is Back Tournament, we will take a look at three aspects of the game that Real Salt Lake will need to have flipped on to find success.

Balanced attack – Minnesota is organized defensively, whether Ozzie Alonso and Ike Opara are in the lineup or not.  To unbalance the Minnesota defense, RSL will need to play behind them and between the lines at different times to stay in control and keep Minnesota from security in their defense.

Organized attack – Minnesota is quick on the counter attack, so keeping shape behind the ball when RSL is in possession will help the transition from attack to defense.  Maintaining control in that moment will slow Minnesota’s runs on the counter.

Set piece defense – Like Colorado in the first game, Minnesota has weapons that can score off of dead balls.  Set piece defending will be important in keeping the Loons off the board, particularly late in the match.
