REAL MONARCHS SLC DROPS 2-1 RESULT AT PORTLAND TIMBERS 2
Monarchs Score First Through Douglas Martinez But Remain Winless Away from Herriman
PORTLAND, Or. (Wednesday, May 29, 2019) – Real Monarchs SLC (3-6-3, 12 points) dropped a 2-1 result to Portland Timbers 2 at Providence Park on Wednesday, seeing its winless skid continue.
FW Douglas Martinez rifled a shot to put the Monarchs up early, but a second-half response from Timbers 2 took the three points at the end of the night.
The contest opened with some strong back and forth play in the middle of the park as each side volleyed for control over one another. DF Konrad Plewa nearly found an early opening goal as he dove to connect a corner kick with a header, but just missed the mark. Timbers 2 had a chance of its own as a heavy touch got around GK Alex Horwath leaving an open net, but Plewa shut out the chance. Martinez struck first for the Monarchs however, as Kacher set him up for a quick one-touch shot that found the top corner of the far post to end the half ahead with one goal.
Portland Timbers 2 started off the second half strong putting pressure down around the Monarchs defensive third, which the Monarchs limited before Timbers 2 were able to find the equalizer in the 63rd minute. Moments later, Portland tallied its second goal after Modou Jadama curled a freekick over the wall into the top left corner of the net. The Monarchs stole momentum back in its favor in the final moments of the match-up, but ultimately could not find the equalizing goal as the match ended 2-1.
