 - Real Monarchs SLC
(1-1-2, 5 points)
fell to its I-15 rival Las Vegas Lights FC 1-0, in a heated affair at Cashman Field.
A bench clearing scuffle rounded out the first half, Lights FC fired into the second half picking up the goal that made the difference with a header through Alex Harlley. The Monarchs nearly found the equalizer through MFs
Jack Blake
and
Maikel Chang
, but ultimately the Utah side wasn’t able to find the back of the net.
The early quarter of the match saw each team testing one another as they looked to fall into the rhythm of the match. Lights FC found the opportunities early but were denied by GK
David Ochoa
, who kept things level through the first half. Blake nearly found the opening goal as he fired a shot through traffic just outside the penalty area, but Lights FC goalkeeper Thomas Olsen dove to put a stop to it.
Las Vegas Lights FC came out aggressively in the early goings of the second half, putting heavy pressure on in the Monarchs defensive third. The attack resulted in the corner that Irvin Parra served to Harlley, who flicked the header into the far post to put Vegas on the board.
Real Monarchs fought for the full 90 minutes searching for the equalizer that wasn’t meant to be, as Blake rifled a shot that went over the crossbar and Chang fought in the box but was cut short in the box.
