URFC Players Kick Off the W-League

Utah Royals FC players FW Lo’eau Labonta, DF Sydney Miramontez, FW Katie Stengel, DF Samantha Johnson, DF Rachel Corsie, and MF Gunnihildur ‘Gunny’ Jónsdóttir, kicked off the W-League season down under, in Australia’s top women’s soccer league.


Here is an update on the mates:


Western Sydney Wanderers

FW Lo’eau Labonta and DF Sydney Miramontez both started and played the full 90 minutes for the Wanderers on Thursday, October 25. LaBonta received a yellow card in the 54th minute and the Wanderers fell 3-0 to Sydney.


New Castle Jets

FW Katie Stengel and the New Castle Jets did not play in the opening weekend of the W-League. The New Castle Jets will play their first match of the season on Thursday, November 1 against Stengel’s URFC teammate, DF Samantha Johnson with the Melbourne Victory.

URFC Players Kick Off  the W-League  -

Melbourne Victory and Adelaide United

DF Samantha Johnson started for Melbourne Victory and MF ‘Gunny’ Jónsdóttir started for Adelaide United. Both played the full 90 minutes and the game ended in a 0-0 draw. Adelaide United will have a bye the second week of the season.


Canberra United

DF Rachel Corsie appeared in her first W-League match with Canberra United on Saturday, October 27, and played the full 90 minutes. Corsie and the Canberra City backline completed the first clean sheet of the season, as Canberra United defeated Melbourne City 2-0.
