REAL MONARCHS SLC HANDS LA GALAXY II 4-0 DRUBBING
FW Chandler Hoffman Scores Second Brace in As Many Matches in Rout; FW Jamal Charles Makes Monarchs Debut; Club Registers 11th Consecutive Home Victory with Win Over Los Dos
HERRIMAN, Utah (Saturday, August 25, 2018) – Real Monarchs SLC (17-6-2, 53 points, 1 West) extended its home undefeated streak to 11 with a 4-0 victory over LA Galaxy II on Saturday night at Zions Bank Stadium. An early goal from MF Maikel Chang, followed by quick goals from MF Charlie Adams and FW Chandler Hoffman, put the game away for the Monarchs in the first half, keeping it at the top of the Western Conference table.
The Monarchs dominated the first half by claiming 68% of possession with four goals to show. Chang picked up the first goal as he put away MF Justin Portillo’s corner kick away with a header into the far side of the net. Adams doubled the Monarchs advantage in the 33rd minute when he blasted a shot from just outside the penalty area that skipped past the LA goalkeeper. Following Adams’ goal, Hoffman claimed his 10th and 11th goals on the year with his two goals separated by just four minutes in the 36th and 40th respectively.
The Monarchs held on and stood strong defensively in the second half as GK Adam Grinwis registered his first shutout in a Monarchs jersey.
The victory at Zions Bank Stadium marks the 11th straight home win and the seventh shutout for the Real Monarchs in 2018. The three points also places distance between the Monarchs and second place team Orange County SC going into the final stretch of the 2018 Regular Season.
UP NEXT: The Real Monarchs go on the road for a midweek match up with regional rival Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC. The match up is set for a 7:00 p.m. MT kickoff on Wednesday, August 29, from Weidner Field.
GOAL SCORING RUNDOWN:
SLC:Maikel Chang (Justin Portillo), 20th minute: Maikel Chang made his run in towards the goal, jumping to meet Portillo’s cross and send the first goal of the game past the keeper into the far side netting.
SLC:Charlie Adams (Chandler Hoffman), 33rd minute: Charlie Adams picked up Hoffman’s pass at the top of the crowded penalty area and took his shot towards goal that cooly found the back of the net.
SLC:Chandler Hoffman (Jack Blake), 36thminute: Hoffman found a gap in Galaxy II’s defensive line and made his run down the middle of the pitch. Blake saw the opening to send the ball forward to Hoffman who launched the ball in from distance for his first goal of the night.
SLC:Chandler Hoffman (Josh Heard), 40thminute: Heard and Hoffman timed their runs to perfection against the backline of Los Dos, taking advantage of some open space provided to them. Heard crossed the ball in towards Hoffman, who neatly placed a left footed strike for his second straight brace.
KEY SAVES AND DEFENSIVE STOPS:
SLC – Adam Grinwis, 16th minute – Monarchs Goalkeeper Adam Grinwis protected his goal with a punch after LA Galaxy II had earned themselves a freekick just outside of the of the 18-yard box. The ball began dipping in towards the far corner, but Grinwis made the save with a punch for a corner kick.
LA – Eric Lopez, 76th minute – Josh Heard made his run forward up the right half of the pitch getting in behind the Galaxy defense. He took the shot towards the far post, looking for the fifth goal of the night but was denied by a diving Eric Lopez.

- Forward Chandler Hoffman has scored four goals in two games, earning himself two straight braces and continues to lead the team in goals with 11 in 2018.
- Forward Jamal Charles made his debut for Real Monarchs SLC as a late game substitution in the 82nd minute.
- The victory marks the 11th consecutive win at Zions Bank Stadium, as well as the seventh shut out at the Monarchs new fortress of Zions Bank Stadium.
