HERRIMAN, Utah (Saturday, May 12, 2018) – Real Monarchs SLC (7-1-1, 22 points 1 West) stretched its unbeaten run to four matches and remained atop the league table with 1-0 victory over Fresno FC. MF Maikel Chang scored the game’s lone goal in the 8th minute to usher the Monarchs to its seventh win of 2018.


The match opened quickly in favor of the Monarchs as the hosts found the back of the net through Chang in just the eighth minute when his rifled shot proved to be the winner in the early stages. The Monarchs nearly found a second goal near the stroke of halftime when MF Sebastian Velasquez’s chipped effort inside the penalty area just trickled wide of the Fresno net.


In the second half the Monarchs again played the aggressor in search of its second goal and nearly found it in the 60
th
minute when Velasquez again played provider, this time to MF
Josh Heard
who’s touch glanced off the far post and away from danger.  Claiming 67% of the possession in the match, the Monarchs would see out the match for its third consecutive victory inside its new home at Zions Bank Stadium with the help of GK
Jake Leeker
, who was made his professional debut in the victory.

UP NEXT: The Monarchs will take to the road for its first-ever visit to Las Vegas to take on Lights FC for the second time this season on Saturday, May 19. Kickoff from Cashman Field in Las Vegas is set for 9:00 p.m. MT.

SLC: Maikel Chang (Sebastian Velasquez) 8th minute: A long ball into the attacking third for the Monarchs found the feet of Sebastian Velasquez who put himself 1v1 with the Fresno backline. Velasquez cut back to find the run of Chang inside the penalty area as Chang elected to fire a first-time shot with his left foot that blew by Foxes goalkeeper Kyle Reynish.

- GK Jake Leeker made his professional debut in the match against the Foxes playing 90 minutes and earning the shutout victory in goal.


- Midfielder Jose Hernandez made his first start of the season after featuring off the bench on multiple occasions for the Monarchs in 2018. Hernandez played the full 90 minutes in the 1-0 victory.


- The Monarchs remain atop the league standings after nine matches played with 22 points taken.


- Claiming 10 of 12 possible points from its four match stretch to open Zions Bank Stadium, the Monarchs stretch its unbeaten streak to 4 matches ahead of its trip to Las Vegas on May 19.
