Real Salt Lake Signs DF Demar Phillips to New Contract

SANDY, Utah (Monday, November 27, 2017) – Real Salt Lake General Manager Craig Waibel announced on Monday that the club has re-signed DF Demar Phillips, bringing back the veteran Jamaican left back for his fourth season with RSL.

“We look forward to having Demar back for another season,” Waibel said.  “As an experienced player, he fits well in our system and in our locker room and he can help us achieve the goals we have established for the 2018 season.”

Phillips originally signed prior to the 2015 season after the former Jamaican National Team defender played most of his career in Norway with Aalesund.  The 34-year-old left back has appeared in 60 matches in three seasons, 50 of them in a starting role.  In 2017, he started in 11 of his 13 matches, registering two assists to bring his career MLS total to seven after picking up five assists in 2016.

“I’m happy to come back and looking forward to next season,” Phillips said.  “I bring hard work and dedication and I’m looking forward to new challenges and having our first preseason with Mike Petke.”

In his international career, Phillips has 12 goals in 72 caps for Jamaica.  Prior to his arrival in MLS, he played with Waterhouse in his native Jamaica (2003-07), Stoke City in England (2007-09) and Aalesund in Norway (2009-14).
