Monarchs Keep Playoff Hopes Alive with 2-0 Win Over San Antonio

Sandy, Utah (Wednesday, September 14, 2016) – Real Monarchs SLC and San Antonio FC faced off Wednesday night for the first time this USL season.  In the regular season home finale for the Monarchs, two second-half goals from Charlie Adams and Pedro Baez secured all three points in a 2-0 victory over San Antonio to improve to 10-12-6.  The loss drops San Antonio to 9-11-8.

Three key points of the game:
· Charlie Adams and Pedro Baez got their first goals of the USL season.  Adams’ goal was off of a deflection from Jesus Leal.  The ball slipped from Leal to Adams, who was able to sink the ball into the far corner.  But Adams wasn’t done for the night.  Eight minutes later he passed a long ball to Baez, who got a one-on-one opportunity with the San Antonio keeper. Baez was able to slip the ball past him and into the goal in the 82nd minute.
·  Lalo Fernandez was back in action Wednesday night, with another shutout, giving him his 8th clean sheet of the season.  Fernandez had 3 saves on the night, and now has 81 saves on the year, making him 3rd in saves in the USL.
·  The win Wednesday night means the Monarchs are now in 9th place and just outside of playoff position.  This means that the next two games are must-wins if the Monarchs want to advance into the postseason for the first time in the club’s two-year history.  The Monarchs next game is against Arizona United SC in Arizona on Saturday.
