Preview: Real Salt Lake at Philadelphia Union

SANDY, Utah (Friday, July 29, 2016) – Real Salt Lake resumes Major League Soccer’s regular season following this week’s All-Star festivities with a two-game road trip, kicking off Sunday in Philadelphia and continuing Wednesday at Toronto prior to a return to Rio Tinto Stadium on Saturday, August 6.  Sunday afternoon in the City of Brotherly Love, RSL looks to snap a seven-game winless streak across all competitions, with RSL’s recent quintet of home draws in league and Open Cup play also including 0-2 road losses at Vancouver July 13 and at Dallas on June 25.

Head Coach Jeff Cassar’s team (8-6-7, 31 points, 5th-best in MLS w/ a 1.48 points-per-game average) kicked off the 2016 campaign with nine of its first 13 matches on the road, posting a 3-4-2 away mark while its home stadium completed a resurfacing.  This weekend at Philadelphia, where RSL looks to capture the full three points for the first time since June 22, the Claret-and-Cobalt has drawn on each of its four previous visits to what is now Talen Energy Stadium in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2014.

With a victory Sunday, RSL GK Nick Rimando would move into a tie for the top spot all-time with Kevin Hartman at 180 career MLS regular-season wins. Rimando – already Major League Soccer’s all-time shutout king with 216 – needs just two wins, six games played, one start, 114 minutes and 54 saves to surpass Hartman in every single MLS goalkeeping category.
