Save of the Week: Rimando Preserves the Draw

Saves can often be game-changing.  On Saturday against the Portland Timbers, Nick Rimando’s 90th-minute stop on Diego Valeri saved a point for Real Salt Lake in a 2-2 draw and is up for the MLSsoccer.com Save of the Week.

With the match knotted up at 2-2, Portland tried to strike on a counter attack in the final seconds of the match.  With play slowed down, Valeri looked for the far post from the right side and with many goalkeepers he may have found the game-winner.  But Rimando isn’t the best in the league for no reason.  He used every inch of his reach to knick the ball away with an outstretched right arm, pushing the ball clear of the frame to preserve the valuable home point and keep RSL unbeaten at home at 4-0-1 in MLS play.

Rimando finished the match with four saves to move his record to 6-3-3 while averaging four saves per game.
