NCAA Update: RSL Academy Alums Stay Alive in NCAA Tournament Action

The NCAA Tournament is cruising in high gear with the Round of 16 kicking off next week and the Real Salt Lake-Arizona Academy has is in the middle of it all with three teams with Academy alums still alive in the tournament.


Stanford 3-1 Santa Clara

Midfielder Corey Baird started and played 77 minutes for the Cardinal as Stanford topped Santa Clara 3-1 to advance to face Ohio State.  Stanford outshot Santa Clara 10-3 on the night to improve to 15-2-2 on the season.


Creighton 5-1 Drake

Evan Waldrep scored a second half goal as Creighton routed Drake 5-1.  The Blue Jays will meet North Carolina next week.  Waldrep played 30 minutes in a substitute role.  Creighton is now 18-3-0 on the year.


Maryland 1-0 Virginia

Amar Sejdic had three shots in 70 minutes, but didnā€™t figure into the scoring as Maryland topped Virginia 1-0.  Riggs Lennon also started for Virginia, managing one shot in 69 minutes in a losing effort.  Maryland upped its record to 11-5-5 while Virginia finished at 10-5-3.


UCLA 0-1 Seattle

Jose Hernandez played 90 minutes and Erik Holt played 10 off the bench, but UCLAā€™s season came to an end with a 1-0 defeat at Seattle University.  The Bruins finished at 11-9-1 on the year.


South Carolina 0-1 (OT) Santa Barbara

It took overtime, but South Carolinaā€™s season came to an end as well and with it the season of defender Ive Burnett.  UCSB scored just two minutes into golden-goal overtime to score a 1-0 win and advance past the Gamecocks.  Burnett continued his ironman season in playing the full match, but South Carolina finished the season at 12-8-1.
