Rimando and Glad Undergo Successful Meniscus Surgeries

SANDY, Utah (Thursday, November 5, 2015)Real Salt Lake has announced that GK Nick Rimando and DF Justen Glad have undergone successful meniscus surgeries.  RSL Team Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Andrew Cooper performed the menisectomies at the Sports Med Utah facility at Salt Lake Regional Medical Center.


“It’s great that Nick and Justen were able to have these surgeries early in the off-season and they will be fully recovered in time for preseason,” RSL General Manager Craig Waibel said.  “We look forward to their contributions next season.”


Rimando, 36, finished his 16th MLS season and ninth with Real Salt Lake.  He held an 8-9-7 record with 8 shutouts and a 1.00 goals against average.  He also posted shutouts in both of his matches in CONCACAF Champions League to help RSL advance to the Quarterfinal Round for the second time in club history, bringing his personal CCL shutout streak to 526 minutes.  In his MLS career, he has a 172-131-91 record with a league-best 123 shutouts and a 1.18 goals against average.  In addition, he played in five matches for the U.S. National Team, giving him 21 caps in his international career.


Glad, 18, made his MLS debut on May 30 against Vancouver Whitecaps FC and totaled seven appearances, six of them starts, for RSL this season.  Outside of MLS play, he made one start in CONCACAF Champions League as well as one start in the U.S. Open Cup.  He also made seven starts for Real Monarchs SLC while on loan to the USL club and scored the club’s first ever home goal in a 1-1 draw with Portland Timbers 2 on April 8.


Real Salt Lake will open the 2016 season in the quarterfinals of the CONCACAF Champions League against Tigres from Mexico, starting on the road in late February and concluding at Rio Tinto Stadium in early March before opening the 2016 MLS regular season.
