For just the second time this season, Real Salt Lake had multiple players named to the MLSsoccer.com Team of the Week, with forward Devon Sandoval and defender Tony Beltran both earning the honor after RSL’s 3-0 win over the LA Galaxy on Saturday at Rio Tinto Stadium.
Sandoval scored two goals to double his season total while Beltran started at left back for the first time in over three seasons and limited the Galaxy’s effectiveness on the wings throughout the match as RSL won its second straight home match in convincing fashion against a top Western Conference opponent after previously topping Seattle Sounders FC 2-0 on August 22.
It was the second selection to the Team of the Week for Beltran and first for Sandoval.
The RSL duo was joined on Team of the Week by goalkeeper Luis Robles (New York Red Bulls); defenders Aurelien Collin (Orlando City SC) and Chad Marshall (Seattle Sounders FC); midfielders Tranquillo Barnetta (Philadelphia Union), Benny Feilhaber (Sporting Kansas City), Ned Grabavoy (New York City FC) and Tony Tchani (Columbus Crew SC); and forwards Sebastian Giovinco (Toronto FC) and Didier Drogba (Montreal Impact).
After earning his first assist and drawing a penalty, RSL forward Juan Manuel Martinez was listed on the bench for the second consecutive week.
