Real Salt Lake Defender Chris Schuler Undergoes Successful Surgery

SANDY, Utah (Thursday, September 10, 2015) – Real Salt Lake has announced that DF Chris Schuler has undergone successful surgery to repair a navicular fracture in his left foot and is expected to be out 4-6 months. 


The surgery was performed by Dr. Timothy Beals, M.D., at the University of Utah Orthopedic Center on Monday, August 31.


Schuler, 28, is in his sixth MLS season with Real Salt Lake after being selected in the third round (39th overall) in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft.  He has started five MLS matches this season and one match in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, seeing RSL go 3-1-2 overall in those appearances.


“He’s in good spirits,” Real Salt Lake General Manager Craig Waibel said.  “He’s in a good spot to recover and surgery went extremely well.  We look forward to having him back in the mix next season.”


In his six seasons, he has 80 appearances, 72 of them starts, with five goals and two assists to his credit.  2014 was his career-best season, seeing him start 25 matches and tally three goals and one assist in helping Real Salt Lake reach the postseason for a seventh consecutive season.


Real Salt Lake faces the Houston Dynamo on the road on Saturday before resuming CONCACAF Champions League play on Tuesday against Santa Tecla in El Salvador.  RSL returns hom to host the LA Galaxy on September 19.
