Celebrating 50 Caps with Kyle Beckerman

Kyle Beckerman 50 caps

On Wednesday, Real Salt Lake captain Kyle Beckerman earned his 50th cap with the U.S. National Team.  And while it came in a forgettable loss to Jamaica in the semifinal round of the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup, it gives us the chance to look back on some of his top moments wearing the Stars and Stripes.

January 20, 2007 – Beckerman earns his first cap in a friendly against Denmark.  After playing 40 times for the U.S. U-17s and making several appearances at the U-23 level, the 24-year-old Beckerman came on as a substitute for then-Rapids teammate Pablo Mastroeni in a 3-1 win in Carson, Calif.

July 5, 2007 – Beckerman earns his first start for the U.S. in a Copa America match against Colombia.  The U.S. lost the Group Stage match 1-0, but Beckerman logged 90 minutes for the first time for the full national team.

July 4, 2009 – Beckerman gets his first win as a starter, going 90 minutes against Grenada in Seattle in the 2009 COCACAF Gold Cup.

July 18, 2009 – Beckerman scores his first goal in a 2-1 win over Panama in the Gold Cup.  After Panama took a first half lead on a goal from Blas Perez, Beckerman equalized in the 49th minute.  After extra time, the U.S. earned the win on a goal from Kenny Cooper in the 106th minute.

August 5, 2012 – Beckerman starts in an historic 1-0 win for the U.S. over Mexico at Azteca Stadium.  It was the first ever win for the U.S. in 25 matches on Mexican soil.

January 9, 2013-June 22, 2014 – Over a span of 15 starts for Beckerman, the U.S. goes 12-0-3, including a streak of nine consecutive wins.

July 13, 2013 – Beckerman starts for the first time in a U.S. jersey at Rio Tinto Stadium.  Joined by RSL teammates Nick Rimando and Tony Beltran, Beckerman helped the U.S. to a 4-1 win over Cuba in the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup.  Previously, on September 5, 2009, Beckerman came off the bench to replace Benny Feilhaber in his first appearance for the U.S. at Rio Tinto Stadium.

July 21, 2013 - In his home state of Maryland, Beckerman starts in a 5-1 win over El Salvador in Baltimore.  He had come off the bench previously in Landover, Md., in 2012, but this was his first start in his home state.

June 16, 2014 – Beckerman makes his first World Cup appearance, starting in a 2-1 win over Ghana to open the 2014 tournament.  Clint Dempsey scored in the first minute and John Brooks scored late to get the U.S. off to a great start in the Group Stage.

July 22, 2015 – Beckerman makes his 50th cap, starting in the midfield in a 2-1 loss to Jamaica in the semifinals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
