Jaime Penedo needed 10 saves in the LA Galaxy’s 1-0 win over Seattle Sounders FC. However, Nick Rimando’s only save in Real Salt Lake’s scoreless draw with Sporting Kansas City earned him MLS Save of the Week honors by a narrow margin over the Galaxy goalkeeper.
Rimando made a close-range save on a shot from Jalil Anibaba in the sixth minute to set the defensive tone for Real Salt Lake in its third consecutive road shutout last week and that was good enough to edge out Penedo in the week’s voting. Rimando had 27.91-percent of the voting while Penedo finished with 26.51-percent. It was the second time this season that Rimando won the weekly honor, after taking home the prize after a Week 1 shutout of the Portland Timbers.
