U.S. opens 2015 calendar on Wednesday

US Chile watch party

The U.S. National Team opens its 2015 schedule on Wednesday with a friendly in Rancagua, Chile, and Real Salt Lake fans have many reasons to watch – primarily because the 23-man roster features RSL goalkeeper Nick Rimando and midfielder Luis Gil.

“It’s going to be a good game,” Real Salt Lake Head Coach Jeff Cassar said.  “Chile is a fantastic team.  They’ve got very technical players and a fantastic coach, so it’s going to be a great game.  Especially down there.”

The game kicks off at 4 p.m. MT and Rio Tinto Stadium will host a viewing party on the brand new video board on the south side of the stadium.  Admission is free to the public.

The U.S. is 3-0-1 in the last four matches against Chile, including a 1-1 draw at the StubHub Center in 2011 in which Rimando kept Chile scoreless in the first half before giving way to Sean Johnson in the second half.

Rimando remains unbeaten in the U.S. jersey, going 10-0-2 in his international career.  Gil earned his first cap for the U.S. last year.

The January camp continues back in California after the friendly against Chile, concluding on February 8 with another friendly at the StubHub Center against Panama.  Gil and Rimando are schedule to rejoin RSL after that match.
