Now that voting for the first two groups for MLS Save of the Year has concluded, we move on to the second two groups where Nick Rimando and Jeff Attinella are pitted against each other in Group D.
So, which will win and advance? Or will one of the other contenders unseed the RSL duo?
Rimando is up for his Week 2 save against San Jose. With 2012 MLS MVP Chris Wondolowski coming his way, Rimando watched a Shea Salinas cross sail into the box, where a glancing header from Wondolowski was headed to the far post. However, a snap-decision save from Rimando kept him out of the net on his 22nd minute effort. It would prove crucial as RSL escaped with a 3-3 draw at Buck Shaw Stadium.
One of the other three saves in the group comes from Attinella against Sounders FC forward Obafemi Martins. The 2014 MVP candidate took a pass from Clint Demspey on the run in the box and rifled a close-range shot that Attinella made a quick lunge to his right to thwart Martins’ effort.
