Goal of the Year: Beckerman and Morales both among first-round competitors

Goal of the Year Morales

Real Salt Lake was sixth in MLS in scoring in 2014 and with those 54 goals came many that drew the attention of the masses.  Two of them now take center stage in the hunt for MLS Goal of the Year.

Kyle Beckerman may not be known for his goal-scoring prowess, but it’s a characteristic that he proved cannot be taken lightly when winning Goal of the Week in Week 2 against the San Jose Earthquakes.  His thunderous left-footed strike from 25 yards out snuck inside the near post to beat Jon Busch and win Beckerman Goal of the Week honors and now it is up for AT&T MLS Goal of the Year.

Additionally, Javier Morales has his Week 10 goal against the Houston Dynamo among the candidates in Group H.  Given time and space at the edge of the box, Morales showed the creativity that has kept him among the top attacking midfielders in MLS for so many years, lofting a perfectly placed shot into the top corner of the net to coax RSL to victory over the Dynamo.

Both goals have some tough competition and fans can vote for Kyle and Javier through 9:59 pm MT on Friday here.
