Plata up for Goal of the Week - week 28

SANDY, Utah – Real Salt Lake’s Joao Plata is up for MLS Goal of the Week after scoring the equalizer in RSL’s 5-1 comeback win over Colorado Rapids last Friday.

Real Salt Lake’s 2014 leading scorer is nominated for his fantastic goal in the 32nd minute, his 13th tally of 2014. The play started with RSL working around the top left corner of the box, eventually finding RSL DF Chris Wingert 30 yards out. The left back played a pass to MF Ned Grabavoy right at the top of the area who then rolled a cheeky pass to Plata who took a touch and blasted a shot into the top corner to pull RSL level 1-1. The Claret-and-Cobalt went on to score four more unanswered goals to complete its rout and move into third place in the league.

Plata is going up against goals from NY’s Bradley Wright-Phillips, D.C.’s Luis Silva, Colorado’s Jose Mari and Portland’s Diego Valeri. Voting for Goal of the Week runs until 12:59 a.m. MT on Friday. Click here to vote for Plata!
