SANDY, Utah – Real Salt Lake goalkeeper Nick Rimando has been nominated for MLS Save of the Week!
Rimando is up for the award for his fantastic penalty kick stop on LA Galaxy midfielder Marcelo Sarvas in the last minute of extra time in RSL’s 1-0 loss at LA Galaxy. The incredible save marks Rimando's 22nd career penalty kick save, making opponents 41 for 63 on spot kicks against the veteran 'keeper. This week, Rimando is up against Chicago Fire goalkeeper Sean Johnson who also had a penalty kick save against New England, D.C. United 'keeper Bill Hamid's denial of San Jose's Alan Gordon, Portland Timbers goalkeeper Donovan Rickett's double save v. Seattle and Columbus 'keeper Steve Clark's save against NY.
RSL has a total of four Save of the Week wins this season, with Rimando winning back-to-back MLS Save of the Weeks for week one and two, and backup goalkeeper Jeff Attinella taking home the award in weeks 11 and 13.
